1- Cosmos Kabar Heat-Sealing Press and Generator Combination
Our equipment is used to create many different types of packaging including clam shell packaging and two piece blister seal packages. The flexibility of this packaging equipment allows it to be customized to meet with the customers’ specifications by adding features such as Programmable Logic Controllers (“PLC,” our patented PLC equipped system with controlled loop feedback for real time power control), with automatic power control capability, shuttles, turntables, and a variety of other equipment. All of these custom additions are geared towards increasing our customers’ productivity. We can also provide fully automated packaging systems with blister and card pick and place stations and automatic part removal capability. We offer our customers full service RF tooling manufacturing capability for true “Turnkey” solutions for their entire RF sealing production. Below are some examples of the equipment that we can provide to fill your future packaging requirements.
The press consists of three basic components. The first is the base, which supports the generator and the press. The base has four wheels (2 rigid and 2 swivel) to make locating the machine convenient. The second is the press itself, generally the cylinder is pneumatic, with two 1.5” guide rods to support the upper platen and die. The third component is the output circuit, Typically a series of coils, capacitors and brass straps, these components are vital to transmitting RF energy to your die and material to be heated. There are adjustment points to level both upper platen and bedplate, as well as speed controls for the platen to move up and down smoothly, but these components will be discussed in the SET UP chapter.
The generator cabinet consists of two compartments; the bottom portion of the cabinet is called the “Power Supply”. The power supply consists of both step-up and step down transformers to supply all of the various voltage requirements of the press and generator. The top portion of the cabinet is called the “Oscillator Section”. The oscillator section generates the RF energy as well as provides means of controlling the amount of energy transmitted to the output circuit of the press.
Magic is not required to understand this portion of RF heat-sealing (Dielectric heating) but basic electrical knowledge is necessary. Solid state components insure long and reliable service; the introduction of PLC controls increase quality, and insure consistent sealing characteristics, and for ISO certified applications.
